Cultural Diversity Workshop

 Carol

I have developed and presented workshops in cultural diversity for educational programs and health care organizations since 1992. I have developed and taught courses in cultural diversity in nursing at the undergraduate and graduate levels at several universities. I have provided nursing and health care education services in Calcutta, India with Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity and in Uganda, Kenya, and Malawi, with particular reference to HIV/AIDS prevention in the last two cases. With Cheryl Easley I led a workshop on cultural sensitivity for the Public Health Nursing Section at the 2011 Annual Meeting of the American Public Health Association. We have recently completed a chapter on cultural competence for a public health text.

Cheryl

I have taught, spoken, and written in this area throughout my career. Significant international travel includes work with the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta, India; instruction of a travel experience for a group of students to learn about Chinese culture, traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture in Guangzhou, the Peoples Republic of China; provision of HIV/AIDS education with a team of colleagues in Malawi; and eight years of participation in the work of the National Resource Center for American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian Elders. With Carol Easley Allen I led a workshop on cultural sensitivity for the Public Health Nursing Section at the 2011 Annual Meeting of the American Public Health Association.
